Freda

The Elephant Conservation and Monitoring Unit (ECMU) observed 12-13 individuals in Freda’s herd over the last six months using radio telemetry.

Quin and her calf in the Bukit Tigapuluh ecosystem

An attempt to recollar Freda was unsuccessful in December 2021, however the ECMU managed to collar another female named Quin in the herd so the group could still be closely monitored.

Freda’s herd is quite elusive and has a relatively low intensity of human-elephant conflict considering its home range reaches 271 km2. The herd spent considerable time in the WCA LAJ Block 4 area and in our leased land known as ABT Block 1. It was observed that Freda and Quin’s herd prefers to move to the north side of WCA LAJ Block 4 which is near the Bukit Tigapuluh National Park border area. This is a safe area for the herd, so the ECMU are always relieved when they stay in this area for a while.

Thank you to Freda's adopters for your support in keeping her herd safe.
