Adopt Ginting

Ginting is a beautiful Sumatran elephant living in a herd of over 20 elephants in the Bukit Tigapuluh ecosystem. At over 30 years of age, she had her male calf Chrisna with her when she was first collared in January 2014. Chrisna was only a few weeks old at the time but the baby bull has developed into a buffalo-sized healthy youngster, always up for trouble and play!

In August 2015 this collar was replaced by a new unit. The next collaring session (to replace collar number three) was scheduled for September 2017 but an accident early during the collaring session prevented this. Currently her collar is set to an interval of eight hours to save batteries until we can arrange a follow up collaring operation.

Ginting and her family group are most likely closely related to the females of Anna’s herd. Since 2014, both families have spent much of their time together, often forming a larger clan that roams together.
