Anna’s herd, estimated at 10–15 elephants, has been highly mobile over the past six months, covering a wide range of around 128 km².

Members of Anna and Mutiara's herd
Once part of the larger southern herd with Ginting and Indah, Anna’s group began following its traditional migration route toward Pinang Belai in early August 2025. This move marked a distinct shift in their movement patterns and coincided with the start of several new human-elephant conflict incidents in the area.
Field monitoring shows that the herd mainly travels through riparian zones and open areas near Sungai Kuning, Mendelang, and the southern edges of Muara Sekalo Village. These locations provide reliable food and water sources but are also among the most human-dominated parts of the Bukit Tiga Puluh ecosystem. Anna’s group has adapted by using secondary vegetation and abandoned plantation areas, though this brings them closer to farmland and community activity.
The routes used by Anna’s herd are part of old elephant corridors linking the Sekutur Jaya and Sumay areas. These are vital pathways that have become increasingly restricted by plantation expansion. This has made the herd a key focus of our conflict mitigation efforts, with field teams working closely with local communities to manage encounters and promote coexistence.
Thank you for helping protect Anna and her herd. Your ongoing support ensures they can navigate their landscape safely as work continues to secure the forest corridors they rely on. Every step they take reflects your commitment to their future.
